  • Copying words or ideals from someone else without giving credit
  • Failing to put a quotation in quatation marks

Module 6 ( Taking Lecture Note)

Sir Mohamad Kamil Ariff bin Khalid
19July2017

Today, my class RB2B should be combined with class RB1B because Madam Rormala are sick. Sir Mohamad Kamil Ariff bin Khalid have to take my class. Sir Kamil teaching us about How To Take Lecture Notes and Effective Note Talking System.

First of all, why we need to take lecture notes? It is bacause if we take lecture notes we can remember what lecture teach you before, interpet, condense and organize information. Besides, I learned about how to take Lecture note? For take Lecture notes, we have prepare before talking notes. For example we have to read the text or the topic a lecturewants to teach before class start. So if we reading first the text, we know the background about the topic. So we have a idea to put in our notes.

After that, we have to get ready to takes notes as walk into the classroom. It's mean we have come to the class earlier and sitting in front of the classroom and we can hear better. Before the class started, we can read a note for memorize our memory. In the class, we have to become active listener. We have focus attention physically and mentally. In the class, we need to open minded and focus on our lecture. We have to listen carefully for the main points and related details for take in notes. If we not understand what the lecture teach us, we need to raise your hand and ask the questions.

Furthermore, we need to know how to make the excellent format setting up note page. For example :-

Has recall/cue column and summary column at the end. This is because why we need to do the cornell note talking system because we don't have a time. Actually, we can make a mind map notes but not in class because we not have a times and we have to fokus and listen carefully what out lecture talking about.

In making notes, what we need to include in notes? Firstly, we need to find the definition. Definition something that can not be changed. So we must put the definition in our notes. We must always note main points that are made during lecture and explain the main points mentioned.

Example you can create your notes like this :-

According to their respective creativity. So we can make our own idea after our class. More beautiful and attracted us to read it.

After you are done making a notes, you need reviewing your notes. Recite from the heading, recite from the recall and talk about the information with others. So we can recall back what we study the last class. We need to recall question to test our memory of the main points and supporting details. Besides, we need to putting the information in our own words and explaining it to shared our notes to our friends together and discuss the information, predicting additional test question and so on.

The ending, I writing the based on what I understanding from the class. I learned a lot from him how to take a good notes, how to put a lecture talking in a notes and so on. Thats all, thank you for teaching us Sir Kamil 𝨾𝨾

Why us need to learn study skills????????

1.       Study skills or academic skills or study strategies are approaches applied to learning
2.       Study skils not only helps you succeed academically, it will also help you do well in life
Without effective study skills you will become overwhelmed and discouraged
Miss Shamsinar told us about Pyramid Learning. In pyramid learning, I can see how many percent% that student can have from lecture 5%, reading 10%, audio visual 20%, demonstraction 30%, discussion group 50%, practice by doing 75%, teach others 90%.
Example:-

Image result for the pyramid learning

So we can know what we can do to improve study skills. Beside that, Miss Shamsinar teach us about function brain and memory.
Function Brains ; Brain is part of the visible, tangible world of the body.
Memory ; Memory allows us to remember facts and experiences. Consists of encoding, storing information, and retfrieval, making that information available for recall. When we see or experience something, it leaves a trace in our brains.
Furthermore, miss shamsinar teach us about learning. Learning, unlike memory, is not about storing information. But , learning is behavior. Learning is about acquiring information, memory about storing it. In a way, you could say the learning is process and memory is the record of that process.

Miss Shamsinar make a some quiz for our Brains. Fisrt quiz is speak what we see in slideshow and second remember what our see in slideshow and written back. This is how we can remember something. Miss Shamsinar told us about how can memory be SM (Sensory Memory),  STM ( Short-term Memory), and  LTM ( Long-term Memory)

Five strategies ( Study system) that I learn from Madam Shahida. Firstly, weekly schedule... Make a plan what you want to do in every weekly. Secondly, we have a daily planner. The benefit you do daily planner is your day not be more boring, more waste of time and you have time to finish your an assignment. Thirdly, I must have semester calendar and lastly is academic vs personal life. Everyone has a personal life, but academic is important too. So we have to balance that.

In addition, I learned about Procrastination. Procrastination is the act of putting off intentionally the doing of something that should be done. For Example:

Besides, the Procrastination is psychological behaviour that allows a person to postpone or delay a certain activity or task. Source of great stress and anxiety for many people. The reason is your work can not be perfect if you make Procrastination.

After that, Madam Shahida tells us about Advantage of being organised. Firstly, keep on schedule and meet the deadline, reduce stress we can control, complete work without stress and build your confidence.

In his conversation, he talks about what some differences between school and college academics. While in school, we used to get help from teachers but when you in university life's you have to care for yourself. You have learned to be an independent person with all you work.
Example;
·         we have spent less time in class, maybe we have more time studying outside of class.
·         We have more reading
·         We have fewer tests
·         We might not be reminded of due dates and exams
·         Attendance may not be required
·         More team/group assignments with meetings outside of class
·         Participation affects grades
·         Fewer reasons for excused absences
·         We have responsible for ours own learning and behavior
·         We only have a certain instructor for a few months
·         Instructor don’t tell us exactly what notes to take
·         Lecture and readings may not overlap 100%

Dr Fauzi Azmi tells us to learn how to make new friends, new relationship, new sitting and may be involved in lots of extra activities. We have to manage our own finances for the first time. Moreover, we have to learn how to take good notes; get notes from missed classes from a reliable source. We have to go every class. If we are not going to class, we cannot sit for a final examination. Get to class early, so we have time to review note and readings.

This is what I learn with Dr Fauzi Azmi. That's all, thank you....

It's mean we must have a goal to achieve that goal like your inspiration. Synonyms: - Objective, aim, end, target, design, intention, intent, plan, purpose,  and more
  • The destination of a journey: - The aircraft bumped toward our goal some 400 miles to the west.

THE REAL DEFINITION OF "GOAL"

Goal should be :-
  1. Goals should be Self Chosen
  2. Goals should be Moderately Challenging
  3. Goals should be Realistic
  4. Goals should be Measurable
  5. Goals should be Specific
  6. Goals should be Finite ( having limits or bounds )
  7. Goals should be Positive
Madam Amira said goals are the ends towards which we direct our effort. What we want to achieve! Goals are important in varsity life because they help motivate us to do work attend classes and study for the exam. Even though we already may have set some goals before in our lives, chances are our thought little about whether those goals were realistic. We can actually improve our academic performance in a university by learning to set goals that motivate you to do well in the future.

Furthermore, Madam Amira makes some activities in our class. The activities are about writing effective goals statements (The five step approach)

Step 1 - Write down what you want to accomplish? My answer is I want to be a successful person in the world, achieve my goals, make my parents proud of me, be good children and can help another people.

Step 2 - Write down any obstacles? My answer is I need to borrow PTPTN money for my studies and need to pay back after finish my diploma and degree. So if I can't pay back the PTITN, i can't travel overseas for example.

Step 3 - Write down any resources around you? My answer is ofcourse my Lecturer, my friends, my family, everyone in around me and google for sure....

Step 4 - Review and revise your goal statement? My answer is always remember what the first that i want to achieve in my life, why i must study, why i need to learn, why i need to be here... because i take my parents hope.... So i have to make sure my goal always in my mind and heart. Always put my goals in time table because I can see the goals every day.

Step 5 - Polish your goal statement.

That is all that we learned during this class. Thank you for teaching us. This is my last class for this interim and my last subject that we learn about study skills. Thank you to all lecture, may Allah bless all of you...
